Activities
The town of Àreu is the starting point to enjoy the most singular elements of the Pyrenean Stop (Natural Park of the Pyrenean Stop) and of the route of the Romanesque one. Majestic tops like Pica d'Estats, the Monteixo, calmed places like Boet or Costuix, recondite lakes like Aixeus or Baiau or mountain ports like the one of Cabús, from which it is possible to be acceded to Andorra happening through Tor.
The lakes and mountains that surround to us allow that it becomes an ideal destiny to find the tranquillity that makes lack to carry out these adventures. In this surroundings and with the added incentive of an exquisite kitchen of high mountain, one is located the Vallferrera Hotel.
Natural Park l'Alt Pirineu
The Natural Park of the Pyrenees is a good example of compatibility between exceptional natural, cultural and landscaping values. The popularity of Àreu is that it's the greatest superfÃcie in number of hectareas of all the park. That allows innumerable routes, with different levels of difficulty, simple plains as Boet, Costuix, Forest or more advanced (tops, lakes, ports...).
We were surrounded by the tops and the highest lakes of Catalonia with the reference of Pica d'Estats (3,143 ms) in the first place, without forgetting tops like Sotllo, Red Goad, recondite Monteixo... the lake like Aixeus, Baiau, Baborte, Areste... This surroundings allow becomes an ideal destiny to find the tranquillity that makes lack to carry out all these adventures.
Museum of the Wood
The old museum of the wood, located in the same town of Àreu, is part of the circuit of the Science Museum of the Technique of Catalonia, and its origin goes back in the last century. Located next to the sawmill we found the flour mill, now recovered, which still today can be seen work. The mountain ranges are moved with the force of the water and make the function saw the trunks to transform them into tables, planks...
GR-11
Signalized route that crosses the Pyrenean Stop longitudinally. It begins in the Cabo de Higuer (Higer Lubesoa-Guipúzcoa) and finishes in the Cabo de Creu, happening through earth of Euskadi, Navarre, Aragón, Andorra and Catalonia. Having a stopping point in our population, Àreu.
Cuita el sol
Se trata de la primera milla vertical. Prueba puntuable dentro de la Copa catalana de carreras de alta monta-
ña. Se trata de salir de la plaza de Àreu a la puesta del sol (1220m) y subir a la cim del Monteixo (2905m) antes de que el sol se esconda. Todo aquel que quede atrapado por la sombra ha de retirarse. Es una distancia de 4000m con un desnivel aproximado de 1685m.
Las Piedras de Pep Coll, situada en el pueblo de Malpui, que bién se podria comparar con Àreu. La leyenda explica que la víspera de la fiesta mayor se hacia una carrera a pié donde solo podian participar los hombres solteros. Salian de la plaza cuando llegaba la sombra y se trataba de llegar a la cima antes que el sol se escondiera. El ganador tenia el derecho a escoger una joven soltera para todos los días de la fiesta mayor. El primer sábado del mes de junio se convierte en una fiesta lúdico-festiva, donde todo el fin de semana participa gente del pueblo y alrededores para ofrecer un entorno agradable, con un pequeño mercado artesanal y diferentes tipo de actividades para amenizar la fiesta.
Adventure Sports
The Pallars Sobirà offers fantastic surroundings to enjoy the adventure sports. With Noguera Pallaressa river and its tops, precipices, forests and valleys, they can be satisfied different necessities from entertainment, experiences and adventures to live the nature totally. With their 60 navigable km, sports like slopes of rafting, canoes, kayak... with different sections from difficulty can be practiced, to be able to enjoy the family or in group. In their environs reduction of precipices, horse routes and everything can be practiced an fan of activities related to the adventure sports.
Also a great supply of expert mountain guides exists to be able to practice all type of itineraries of high mountain.
Virós Forest
The forest of Virós is one of the most extensive and important forests of Catalonia within the frame of the Natural Park of the Pyrenean Stop, where it will be able to enjoy the tranquillity and the wealth of the plants and the animals. Winter one becomes fabulous complemented tracks of sky of bottom with a series of activities, like exits with rackets and sleighs with dogs... all that to be able to enjoy a different way the snow. In summer we left to passage to the adventure sports as circuits of BTT or magnificent routes.
From the population of Àreu it is possible to be acceded to the different tracks from ski of the region, as Port Ainé, Tavescan, Espot and Bonaigua.
